Tritonia
Cottage Garden
Welgedacht Estate, Welgemoed
Tritonia was developed as a cottage garden in Welgedacht Estate, Welgemoed, with an early design direction inspired by the layered, naturalistic planting associated with the new perennial movement. The intention was to create a garden with softness, seasonal rhythm, and a more generous planting language than a conventional residential landscape.
As the project unfolded, however, the garden became about more than planting style. It became a deeply personal space for a client whose home life carried its own remarkable energy, care, and resilience. The garden was shaped not only as something beautiful to look at, but as a living place around which family life, nurture, and daily moments could continue to gather.
The result is a garden that speaks quietly rather than loudly — with cottage-style planting, texture, movement, and seasonal change creating a gentle backdrop to a home defined by care. It remains a reminder that garden-making is not only about composition and plants, but also about the people whose lives unfold within them.
