De Plattekloof
Cottage Garden
De Plattekloof Estate, Plattekloof
De Plattekloof is a cottage garden in Plattekloof, designed with a softer, more flowering front garden and a practical, productive back garden. The front garden was planted with a colourful mix of salvias, perovskia, gaura, and osteospermum, creating a loose, seasonal planting style with movement, texture, and long periods of flower interest.
The back garden was treated more robustly, with indigenous shrubs used to bring structure and resilience to the space. A lemon tree and custom timber vegetable planters added a productive layer to the garden, making the rear space both useful and rooted in everyday family life.
Together, the front and back gardens balance softness and function — combining cottage-style colour, hardy planting, and small-scale edible growing within a residential Plattekloof setting.
