Loire
Succulent Garden
Zevenwacht Village, Kuilsriver
Loire began as a practical intervention on a sandy slope in Zevenwacht, where timber retaining was introduced to create greater stability and structure. Over time, the project developed into a full lawn replacement, transforming a difficult, thirsty area into a more resilient and expressive succulent garden.
Three central planting beds were established with a colourful succulent palette, including vygies, yellow spekboom, and blue chalksticks. These hardy plants brought texture, contrast, and seasonal colour to the garden, while proving well suited to the harsh sandy conditions of the site.
Feature tree aloes were added for sculptural height and form, with the perimeter softened through a mix of shrubs and ground covers. The result is a low-water garden that feels playful, tough, and highly adapted to its setting.
