Malton
Urban Apartment Garden
Wynberg, Cape Town
Malton was developed as an urban apartment garden in Wynberg, forming part of a three-level residential redevelopment with underground parking. The project combined durable pedestrian paving with considered planting, creating a practical and visually refined landscape for daily use by residents and visitors.
The sidewalk and pedestrian areas were paved with coarse exposed aggregate pavers, selected for their tactile finish and long-term resilience under regular foot traffic. A charcoal cobblestone border frames the walkway, adding subtle definition and contrast without overcomplicating the material palette.
Planting was used to soften and structure the built environment. In the main bed, the fine texture and pink-red seed heads of indigenous Melinis nerviglumis were set against the larger architectural form of Agave attenuata. Elsewhere, site-specific planting such as Plectranthus ground cover was introduced beneath a mature oak tree, while large rectangular pots with star jasmine helped soften fencing panels within the parking area.
